Our Mission

The Wabash County United Fund Invests in programs that have a positive impact on the quality of life for residents of Wabash County.

Our Story

Wabash County United Fund has been in the community since 1957. The organization was created as a way for companies and their employees to support the work of local non-profit organizations. United Fund has always prioritized programming that supports struggling individuals and families who are trying to meet life’s challenges. Through its 67-year history, donations made to United Fund have impact thousands of families and given them a better chance for success.

At the Wabash County United Fund we believe that when we’re united, we all win. We exist to address the most critical issues our community faces by investing in programs that have a positive impact on the quality of life for residents of Wabash County.

We’re proud to partner with and support local organizations who are working to address the issues our community faces in the areas of education, health, and financial stability.

Funded Agencies

85 Hope: Free medical clinic to provide compassionate primary medical care and other healthcare services to low-income adult residents of Wabash County who are uninsured or under-insured.

​

Access Youth Center: â€‹Each program is designed to meet a specific need in a student's life. From spending time with them during peak at-risk times, to providing food, showers, laundry, backpacks, Christmas presents, basic hygiene supplies, and meals as needed. We strive to meet any need that we see in the lives of local students.

 

Advantage Housing, Inc.: Focuses on homeless prevention by meeting the housing needs of the underserved. Currently renovating a house on Hill Street H.O.S.T. (Housing Option Short Term) with four separate , units for men, or women, or families. Their warehouse is located in Kokomo with all proceeds supporting affordable housing, emergency housing, and housing counseling.

 

ARC of Wabash County: Provides programs and services for individuals in Wabash County who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ARC provides advocacy, transportation, affordable housing, employment, and social activities.

 

Bash Bags [Formerly Blessings in a Backpack - Wabash]: Provides food over the weekend for local food insecure school children in grades pre-k-6th grade. Food items are sent home with students who attend Metro North, OJ Neighbours, Southwood Elementary School, Sharp Creek, St. Bernard, LH Carpenter, and Wabash Middle School.

Blessings in a Backpack - North Manchester: Provides food on the weekends for children on free and reduced lunch in grades pre-k through 6th grade who attend Manchester Community Schools.

 

Community Cupboard Food Pantry: Located at the Winchester Senior Center where volunteers collect and distribute essential food supplies and household items to Wabash County residents with a demonstrated need.

 

Daniel's Place: Delivers quality, affordable respite care for individuals with disabilities and their families. "Respiteprovides short-term care solutions and support for those who require continual assistance from a loved one.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library: Each month, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library mails a high quality, age appropriate book to all registered children birth through age five, addressed to them, at no cost to the child's family.

​

Education for Conflict Resolution: Uses the mediation process/method as a way of getting kids with a pattern of absenteeism to begin coming to school more regularly. The program is called School Attendance Mediation or SAM.

​

Hands of Hope – Radiant Health: Offers a personalized, trauma-informed mobile advocacy service for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and stalking, as well as their families, in Wabash County.

 

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry: Meat4Forks: Indiana farmers, businesses and individuals donate livestock through participating meat processor. The donations are processed into 1-2 pound packages of ground mean. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry then pays the processing fees on the meat and contacts a food bank, food pantry, soup kitchen, or related organization to distribute to the hungry in their community.

 

LaFontaine Learning Community: A child-care ministry, serving children ages six weeks through 5th grade. Offering daycare services year-round as well as before and after school care and school break camps.

 

Learn More Center: Offers skills for the High School Equivalency Exam, English Language Learner, College Transitions, and Career Trainings for adult learners (and youth 16+ who have exited school).

 

Lighthouse Mission: More than just a retail store – they provide clothing, household items, hygiene products, etc. for people that are currently in a tough situation and are struggling.

 

Manchester Early Learning Center (MELC):  Provides quality educational childcare and early education experience for children 0-12 years of age at an affordable price.

 

Montessori School at WPC (Wabash Presbyterian Church): The Montessori Method is a student-centered, observation-based approach to education offered to children 18 months to 12 years.

 

Pathfinder Services - VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance): VITA provides free tax preparation services to qualifying individuals and families who have low to moderate income levels, have a disability, or speak English as a second language.

 

Roann Community Building: Rental space available lessons, family gatherings, and line dancing.

 

Somerset Community Building: A popular rental venue for family reunions, club meetings, and birthday parties at a reasonable daily rental rate.

Urbana Community Building: Rental space available for weddings, reunions, birthday parties, club meetings, etc.

 

Wabash County Cancer Society: Supports and assists anyone who has cancer in Wabash County with equipment loans, prescription reimbursement, and mileage reimbursements for appointments within Indiana.

​

Wabash County Tobacco Free Coalition: Provides dangers of tobacco and secondhand smoke information & resources for those ready to quit.

 

Wabash County Transit: Offers transportation for all ages, all over the county. 60+ free will donation, 59 and under, $2 fare for one-way trip in the city limits of N. Manchester and Wabash. $4 one-way anywhere else in

the county. Caregivers ride for free and free rides are given to those needing transportation to any soup kitchens, pantries, WIC Office, and 85 Hope in Wabash County.
